I am not alone in my concern (sweating panic) about what is next in my life now that my daughter is a Freshman in College and my son a Senior in High School. I gave up my original career (earning more than sub-minimum wage)  a million years ago (almost 19) when I gave birth. Mommy groups, PTA, Community Service Volunteer, Political Activist (I went to 1 march), Girl Scout Troop Leader, Team Manager, and Carpool Organizer extraordinaire are all behind me.

Now What?

I have no idea. However, it may be fun to document my entry into this scary new stage of my life. Maybe together my fellow almost empty nesters and I can glide smoothly (or not) through the next adventure of our lives with fun, laughs, and hopefully grace.

Follow me on my journey as I navigate through these terrifying waters.

So much of the future is uncertain. It’s a little less uncertain knowing you are not entirely alone. Come with me as I test the waters of downsizing and retirement. Be there with me as I discover and share how we can move on, not without stumbles, but with humor and joy.

2. Explore new Hobbies and Passions and learn with me.

One of my biggest joys is finding new things to fill my time. Mainly so I don’t have to do the old boring chores that I hate but nevertheless. During Covid, I became a Calligrapher with no clients and a Watercolor Artist that uses actual paint in a tube, not the 99 cent grade school palate. I’m happy to share all my learning tools and provide new ones along the way. Even if it’s something you never thought you could do, I will show you that you can.

3. Find a community of US.

There are many specific blogs, websites, and books for empty nesters. There is fashion over 50, makeup, recipes, motivational and spiritual topics. They are awesome. However, this may be Blogging 101 blasphemy, but I’m reaching out to anyone who doesn’t have a niche. I was either overwhelmed or just realized that I am not one generic fit-all module for the typical almost empty nester. So being a type is fabulous, but let’s explore everything and see what sticks.

4. Manage the struggle of being just a little bit older than most everyone in your stage of life.

You do not need any more description than I gave birth to my kids after 40. It’s been sometimes challenging being the oldest person in the room, and this ship may have sailed, but it’s still part of who I am.

5. Write a Weekly Blog

to share my experiences. My goal is if I reduce worry just a bit and bring a smile and some new joyful experiences with my writing, then yay!

I hope you will stick around and follow my journey.
